An extension column has become available recently which dramatically improves the performance of Reflux & Super Reflux condensers.

Although it is not essential for a reflux or super reflux owner to buy one, the benefits it would provide are:

  • It improves the quality of the alcohol produced
  • It increases the yield of alcohol produced

Typically, for a 6kg wash, the super reflux will produce 3.1 ltres @ about 80%

The same condenser with an extension column fitted will also produce 3.1 litres but the alc% will be over 90% which means you are extracting about 12% more alcohol & the quality will be noticeably better.

Some brewers would like to try their hand at making a beer using the traditional grain mashing tecnique but are put-off by the technical complexity, the high cost of the equipment & the need to put aside the best part of a day to do it.
