Who we are

Who we are

AUSTRALIAN HOME BREWING - Melbourne Est. 1968

"Australian Home Brewing" started in 1968 which means we are the oldest Home Brewing Business in the world. In fact, we started in this business when home brew was illegal in Australia.

It was not until 1972 when the Whitlam government was in power that the Attorney General, Lionell Murphy changed the law to allow you & me to ferment beer, wine & other drinks for our own use.

Today we continue to love what we do and share what we brew. We are always brewing a new experimental batch or just brewing the very best craft beers and spirits which off course we share with our mates. Cheers

AFL Grand Final 2013

Yes we are very happy Hawks at Australian Home Brewing. Well make that one Hawk...Hamish was one very happy man on the last Saturday in September in 2013. He was one of thousands of MCC Members that lined up at dawn to try and get a decent seat. He nailed it with front row of level 3 of teh Members.  Just in case you missed it Hawthorn 11.11.77 defeated Fremantle 8.14.62...check out the video Hamish shot of the lead up to the opening bounce and the first goal of the game by the mighty Hawks.

Australian Home Brewing Boys at Kiss March 6 2013

Hey Home Brewers ...Check it out..... We wanted to show you a little of what we do on the outside when we are not at Australian Home Brewing or when we are not brewing bloody good beer.......  One of our boys Hamish is a Kiss Fanatic and on March 6 2013 he was in the thick of it in the Destroyer Zone at Docklands Stadium with the Kings of 70s rock...... Here is a pic of Hamish (on the left) at the concert with his mate Scotty...He tells us "if you want to see how the big boys do it then this band kicks ass every time and they are better than ever". Check out Paul Stanley and Eric Singer sing Black Diamond which is the final song of a great rock show. It is not too much of a stretch to say this is absolutely one of the best rock gigs on the planet..... rock on boys and keep on brewing.

About Australian Home Brewing

AHB is the oldest established specialty DIY brewing business in Australian established in 1968. It supplies premium quality local, imported and specialty ingredients and equipment for brewing beer, wine and making spirits and liqueurs.

AHB has a warehouse & three retail outlets in Victoria, this Eco Lighting retrofit took place at the AHB warehouse and retail store at 24 Eskay Road, Oakleigh South.

Before the Eco Lighting Retrofit

Prior to the eco lighting retrofit, the Australian Home Brewing Oakleigh annual electricity bill for lighting was $1,710.

After the Eco Lighting Retrofit

After conducting a systematic lighting audit, the energy consumption for lighting at AHB was reduce by 44%. Table One below shows the lights that were replaced during the retrofit, including the details about the globes replaced and the wattage per globe.

Table One: Original and efficient lighting replacements during the retrofit

Hamish Roger-Wilson, Business Development Manager at Australian Home Brewing said “Every light globe from the warehouse to the office, to the store and even the cool rooms was replaced during the retrofit”.  With almost halving our energy consumption for lighting, this retrofit will make a sustainable, significant impact on the environment”.

Hamish added, “Another advantage from this retrofit is that the new efficient globes last much  longer, hence the amount of time we will spend changing light globes in the future will drastically reduce”.

AHB in Oakleigh South has reduced its lighting costs by $958 a year, with substantially less impact on the environment with a saving of 6.1 tonnes of CO² emissions per annum.

Phone Messages of the Day

We speak to literally hundreds of brewers every week on the phone and chat about their brewing, their latest recipe ideas plus a fair amount of Q & A. We do what we can but there are just some occasions where we just can't help these tow videos are two such recent occasions. Cheers to all the home brewers out there who had a question but were too afraid to ask.
